PRP Therapy for Hair Loss
Combating Hair Loss with PRP-Treatment OR PRP-Treatments: The New Line of Defense Against Hair Loss.
The prospect of hair loss is a nightmare for any person. Earlier thought to be just a problem faced just by men, hair loss, today, is also being experienced by many women. Thanks to modern day living, stressful lifestyles, hectic schedules, exposure to pollution in both the environment and the food we eat, hair fall is a burgeoning concern. Many people resort to various methods to combat their hair loss, from nightly warm oil massages to hair regrowth serums. Some of these may work for some people and some may not. Ongoing research has been consistently been directed towards understanding the causes of hair thinning and hair loss and finding solutions for it. The latest among these is Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment?
Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment is a procedure in which a patient’s blood is used to make a gel which is then injected into their scalp. This serves to strengthen hair follicles which in turn reverses or stops hair loss. This treatment is most effective if it is started as soon as hair loss or hair, thinning is noticed and in cases of androgenetic alopecia (also known as male pattern baldness). However, if hair loss has already occurred, there are significant bald patterns on the scalp or if the hair follicles are dead or inactive, this treatment is not of any help.
What can I expect during the treatment?
Plasma-Rich Platelet treatment involves drawing blood from the person and separating the platelets from the blood using a centrifuge. Local anesthesia is administered to the area to be treated, followed by preparing the scalp with a derma-roller which stimulates the skin, helps with skin repair and cell regeneration and then the PRP injections are administered. The PRP stimulates the follicles into an active growth phase, promotes tissue regeneration and healing. The entire treatment procedure may take up to two hours depending upon the specific needs of each individual patient. The entire treatment usually involves approximately four sessions which are spaced one to four weeks apart for best results. The treatment itself does not have any side effects though some people may experience tightness around the head or a mild headache for a day after the treatment.
Is everyone eligible for this treatment?
A systematic and detailed consultation with our doctors is the norm when you visit us at the Delhi Skin Centre. A complete medical history will be undertaken which will look into the underlying causes of your hair loss such as genetics, anemia and other health factors and you will be guided on what best suits your specific needs. PRP treatment procedures are also complementary to other hair restoration procedures which may or may not be surgical. However, it is not a recommended procedure for people suffering from severe medical conditions such as skin diseases, chronic liver disease, cancer, metabolic disorders, systemic disorders or any type of platelet dysfunction syndrome.
